As lead singer of the Cockney Rejects, Jeff Turner was responsible for some of the most explosive gigs in musical history. Adopted by West Ham hooligan mob the ICF as their band of choice, Jeff and his band frequently had to deal with the kind of violence the ICF usually reserved for the terraces. Although he never condoned their actions, as a teenaged boxing champ, Turner often found himself in the thick of things. This is a story of what it’s like to go from the East End streets to being a teenage pop idol and back again. Gripping from the first page, Cockney Reject is his astonishing story told in his own words. "My true story of bravado, triumph, tears, betrayal and despair. From having the world in your hands at 15, to staring down a barrel at 17 and going from the TV screen to the Labour Exchange in two years. Hold on to your hat, because I never held on to mine!"

Jeff Turner was raised in Custom House in the East End of London. The son of a docker and with seven other siblings to share a three bedroom council house with, life really was tough. Deciding that he needed to learn how to defend himself he learned to box. Fighting was something he excelled in and out of 39 fights he won 31. But it was music that made his name. When the Sex Pistols number one 'God Save the Queen' hit, his brother Mickey picked up a guitar and Jeff picked up a microphone and together they stormed the music scene. The Cockney Rejects' shit-kicking attitude was the real deal. With West Ham's notorious firm, the ICF, as number one fans going mental whenever the Rejects took to the stage, there was always plenty of 'bovver'. When the ultra right wing organisation, The British Movement, showed up at one of their gigs, they were personally battered and seen off the premises by Jeff and the band. The Rejects stood for being young, working class and not taking shit from anyone. However the madness couldn't last forever and as violence at the gigs spiralled out of control, so did the band. Jeff was left dazed and penniless. Now at last, this is his story..... www.blake.co.uk/
