Hello Steve.
Before I start I’ll say the following.
Back in the bad old days bands wanted to play. They wanted to get up on stage and be heard and put their music across to anyone that would listen.
Back in the bad old days so many were ripped off one way or another but lets never forget that that’s exactly what they were….The Bad Old Days and they are gone. We lived them and we know the score.
Today too many people that weren’t there at the time have something to say about those times.
I’ve never been to Russia and can only comment on the place from what I’ve seen on TV and read in books. For me to make a genuine comment would be wrong. The same goes for those that comment on the times we lived when they weren’t there.
Having said that……lets get going Steve.
Steve. First of all Tel, I gotta hand it to ya!, you’ve done a sterling job getting some of the top interviews of all the old bands on this site which is in my opinion is the only one you should be reading about Oi! and as we have a massive database on our myspace site of almost 7000 IndEx supporters, I’ll be letting them all know about this one so stand by to get swamped by loads of oi! Fans.
Rant over now lets get going Tel lol!!
Tel. First off how did you acquire the name Milky?
Steve. The name came about from Joey of the last Resort, because I wore bins (Glasses) and he reckoned I looked like the Milky Bar Kid so it kinda stuck to me although only people who really knew me back then in the early days called me by that name!!
Tel. What have You, Tom, Bacon and, Sedge been doing since you called it a day?
Steve. Well Tommy’s been married, divorced and then remarried again and is now very happy with kids all grown up and everything, Tom’s has a Paint & Decorator business but has stayed in music since leaving IndEx playing with various bands and done some session work too which by the way, that vote for the best guitarist you did should have had Tommy in it really and how about we do a head to head with Tom & Micky Geggus at a gig!! Are you listening Mickey lol!!! I think you’d all change your vote once you hear him play lol!!!
Bacon is Bacon and he’s never stopped going to gigs and is still a fucking nutter continuously playing guitar and is itching to get back on stage and give it some, played in a reggae band for a few years and also in a rock covers band for The Hells Angels Lee Valley Chapter so don’t piss him off as he has influential friends LOL!!!
Sedge is married with 2 lovely kids one of them has special needs and sedge does a lot for special causes which is great, Sedge has also stayed in music and has done session work and played for quite a few years in a different kind of band that’s a bit different from Oi!/Punk But have a listen to it because musically it’s excellent: www.myspace.com/vivasantana
As for me!!! well fuck me where do I start?, Ok here goes: Went back to racing Supercross in the United States and lived in California till 1991, came back to England after a bad accident and spent all of 91 recovering from my injuries in the mean time met my wife Melanie in Ibiza who turned out to be a proper East End Girl from Bethnal Green and only lived a stones throw from where I used to live even though I never knew her!!, got married in Las Vegas in 1992 and had a 3 Month Honeymoon touring the West Coast Of The USA. Decided I wouldn’t be going back to Motocross/Supercross and so turned my interests to Motor Racing and ended up racing Single Seaters from 93 to 2000, Became British Champion Runner Up In 1997, whilst doing this I ran a car business which helped finance the racing. Got out of the car sales game in 2002 quite a wealthy man but got caught up in the world of Stocks & Shares Trading and whilst waiting for the markets to move I ended up getting involved in Horse Racing!!
Became a Professional Gambler and between 2002 to 2004 became an addicted gambler ashamed of making over £2.5 million in bets (Betting £14,000 a day : win some loose some win some loose some etc etc) Going on the biggest emotional rollercoaster ride of my life waiting for the break that never came eventually succumbing to financial suicide loosing everything including the kitchen sink (house) owing credit cards and everything!!, the only one that didn’t leave me was the Mrs, I then vowed never to touch another bookies again and so have had to start all over again and so from the start of 05 to the present day I have owned & Run a Mobile Phone & Computer shop but will be closing it for good the day before the Rejects / Badoes gig on the 30th June 07 as I’m now financially back on track with my life in my hands and have various projects to work on.
I unbelievably still have the same loyal wife and 3 lovely children ages 13, 9 & 1.5 year old, The 9 year old is Herts gymnastic Champion and I concentrate a lot on her sport and help out at her club plus believe it or not I actually made it through to the last 100 candidates of the Apprentice last year after being encouraged to try out for the program from customers that come into my shop!!
